President Buhari Queries Obasanjo’s $16Bn Power Project

6

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday wondered what former president Olusegun Obasanjo achieved after spending huge amount on power.

He spoke with reference to the failed $16 billion power project under the Obasanjo administration.

The President made the assertion while hosting members of the Buhari Support Organisation led by the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Hameed Ali, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja..

Buhari, who did not mention Obasanjo’s name, asked, “where was the power after a former president claimed to have spent $16 billion on the project?”

Solacebase recalled that the House of Representatives had, in 2008, described the $16 billion spent on power by Obasanjo’s government as a colossal waste, blaming it on “poor budget planning and a lack of proper oversight by relevant bodies”.
