A foremost mass communication scholar, Professor Umar Pate has been elected the President of the Association of Communication Scholars and Practitioners (ACSPN).
Professor Pate was elected at the end of the 7th annual conference and first virtual conference of the association on Wednesday.
The secretary-general of the association, Professor Nosa Owens Ibe, proposed the nomination of Professor Pate at the two days annual virtual conference as the new President to succeed the pioneer President, Professor Lai Oso.
The election was conducted by members of the association during a voice vote that formally sealed Professor Pate’s candidacy as the next man to head the prestigious association.

The two-day conference was attended by over 100 communication scholars and practitioners from all over the world.
Professor Pate was the pioneer Dean, Faculty of Communications, Bayero University, Kano and presently Dean of Postgraduate Studies of the same university.
The theme of this year’s conference was “Communicating Identities and Nationhood: Promoting Inclusive Democracy through Access to Information and Knowledge Societies”
