Shekarau and Kwankwaso: A gigantic gang up to gag Ganduje- Bala Ibrahim
Kano, is poised for a new political alignment, agreement or alliance that may completely alter, in fact tamper, in character and composition, the political permutations of the sitting Governor of the state, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
The furnace for the fire-works was set operational long ago, from the time Gov. Ganduje was declared winner, through an inconclusive election that gave him a second term. An election he won against Abba Kabiru Yusuf, the preferred candidate of his benefactor and predecessor, Eng. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Although the water of discord between the two political friends had started simmering gently long before the election, it only began boiling and bubbling almost immediately the Governor was sworn in.
No sooner than Ganduje was sworn in, than the political architecture of the state started seeing changes amongst loyalists of the two. Supporters started changing sides and changing signs, especially in the wearing of the red cap, which symbolizes allegiance to the Kwankwasiyya movement.

That is on the one hand. On another hand, misunderstandings also began between the Governor and some key members of the party in the state, some of whom are members of the National Assembly, the highest law making arm of the Government.
The aggrieved members started complaining of being side-lined and even sometimes shut out completely from party decisions, including, when the push got to shove, the conduct of the party congresses.
And for an elected representative, and one with future political ambition, it would be wildly unreasonable, illogical, or inappropriate, to expect him or her to be watching only, in the process that would produce who would elect him or her.
Dissatisfied with the conduct of the wards and local governments congresses in the state, particularly because they held parallel congresses, this group of law makers formed the G-7, under the leadership of former Governor of the state and now a Senator in the State, and sent a petition to the National headquarters of the party, accusing Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of side-lining them in the affairs of the party in the state, and asking for the headquarters to recognize their congresses as the authentic ones.
They didn’t stop there. They went further to an FCT High court in Abuja, seeking the interpretation of which of the congresses is authentic. Alas, the court ruled in their favor, by saying the Shekarau faction congresses are the legally recognized ones.

Pursuant to the declaration by the Abuja high court, and the recognition of the Chairmanship of Ahmadu Haruna Danzago of the Shekarau faction, the Governor’s faction, which had Abdullahi Abbas as chairman, began the slide to dereliction.
Although the state government had appealed against the judgment, from the look of things, especially the speed with which party supporters are switching allegiance to the other camp, it is evident that the governor has lost the party structure to the newly formed G-7 group, under the leadership of the Sardauna of Kano, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, who probably used the occasion of the wedding of his daughter yesterday, to test the efficacy of his long standing political strength.
This development would certainly disorganize the Ganduje camp, who must have started seeing the beginning of the end of it’s political control in the state.
Indeed the crisis has reawakened a fresh, new moves for political alignment and realignment among the power brokers of the state, with aggrieved Kwankwaso and aggrieved Shekarau at daggers drawn against Ganduje.
When he visited to condole Kwankwaso for the death of his brother recently, Ganduje was reported to have declared readiness to reconcile with Kwankwaso, his erstwhile political godfather and leader of Kwankwasiyya movement, a very powerful political movement.

Although those close to Kwankwaso are saying no one should rule out the possibility of them reuniting, but with what happened yesterday at the Shekarau’s daughter’s wedding, one cannot be wrong if he says, the die is cast for an alignment that would make that reconciliation untenable, and rather scare Governor Ganduje to the teeth, politically.
Kwankwaso did not only come with an intimidating deployment of his red cap lieutenants to the wedding, but was even the one that stood in for the Shekarau family, and went ahead to receive N100,000 dowry from the groom’s side.
The wedding, widely viewed as a canopy for political alignment and realignment, was a roll call of who is who amongst the Kano political big wigs and the Distinguished members of the National Assembly. The Senate President, Dr. Ahmed Lawan was there to lead other lawmakers at the event.

The atmosphere was politically charged, because of the unusual surge of crowd from all the political divides.
