SSANU-BUK joins seven-day strike over unmet agreements
The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) at Bayero University, Kano (BUK), has resolved to commence a seven-day warning strike beginning on Monday, March 18, 2024.
Speaking during an emergency meeting held on Wednesday at the University, Comrade Mustapha Aminu, the Chairman of SSANU in BUK, expressed disappointment that the federal government had failed to honour their agreement.

He emphasised that the government’s only language seemed to be the language of strikes. “This meeting was convened urgently as per the directives from our national body. We are set to embark on the seven-day warning strike starting from March 18, 2024. Nearly everyone is in support of this action, and we are determined not to waste any time.
“There are several reasons behind this strike. These include the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement, unresolved issues related to salary increments (specifically the 25% and 35% increments), outstanding minimum wage payments, and the unfulfilled promise of 50 billion naira in allowances by the government,” he said.
“We are still awaiting the government’s response. However, it is clear that the government only understands the language of strikes. Therefore, we are fully prepared to proceed with this seven-day warning strike.”
He urged all members to remain at home and adhere to the decisions made regarding the strike action.
“If, after the expiration of the seven-day period, the government fails to take concrete steps, we will communicate the new decision of the National body—whether to escalate to a full-blown indefinite strike action or pursue an alternative course of action.”
