The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Adamu Abdu-Kafarati on Monday barred judges of the court from granting ex parte orders in political cases ahead of the 2019 general elections.
The Chief Judge also gave a deadline of October for judges to conclude political cases with likely effect on candidates in the forthcoming elections in the country.
Justice Abdu-Kafarati hinted this at an occasion of the special court session to mark the commencement of the Federal High Court’s new 2018/2019 legal year.
He said the directives on political cases became imperative to forestall any hitches by unscrupulous politicians trying to use the judiciary to create chaos.
“Prohibiting judges from granting ex parte orders which are made without the knowledge or hearing of the other parties involved in a case, controversies that often surrounded political cases could be reduced if a court took a decision after hearing all the parties to the case,” said the Chief Judge.
On his part, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Barr Abubakar Malami (SAN) challenged the court to embark on immediate steps to enhance speedy dispensation of justice that will earn the judiciary public respect and confidence.
