Structural defects claim on Kofar Nasarawa flyover is malicious- TEC Engineering

‘’If such incompetent work as alleged was carried out at Kofar Nasarawa flyover , why would Governor Abdullahi Ganduje award us other construction works in which we have completed some and others still ongoing.’’

The Chinese construction company that handled the Kofar Nasarawa flyover in Kano, TEC Engineering Company Nigeria Limited, has described the allegation of defection on the bridge by the government as malicious and spurious.

It appealed not to be drag into politics as the company is only carrying out its legal contracting and construction work in the state and Nigeria at large.

Solacebase reports that Kano State Commissioner for Information, Malam Mohammed Garba recently said the state government is considering demolishing the flyover if the structural defects observed on the flyover is dangerous to the lives of residents.

He said a committee has been set up to come up with a report on the situation of the defects observed on the flyover.

Reacting to this development, a former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano, Alhaji Abba Kabiru Yusuf wrote a letter to the Chinese company over the allegation.

Alhaji Abba Kabiru Yusuf who was the commissioner for works under Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso when the flyover was constructed and commissioned in 2015, in the letter said that it was further alleged that the bridge is sinking and the concrete is crushing

According to the letter, Abba Kabiru Yusuf requested the company that in view of the gravity of the allegation, to conduct an investigation on the quality and stability of the bridge from its date of completion to date.

‘’It is my wish that you forward the findings of your investigation bearing its life span and any other related information that may help in dismissing the spurious claim of Kano State Government.

However in a reply by the company, dated February 12, 2021, signed by its Managing Director, Engr. Lin Zhengliang, said the investigation has been conducted by its engineers and some other professionals and no structural defect or any was discovered.

‘’We hereby assure you that the bridge was constructed in very good quality according to engineering specifications and designs and the structural work was guaranteed for a minimum of 80 years at least since the completion date in the year 2015,’’ the letter read in part.

‘’Your delegation or engineers of MOWH&T of Kano can be on the site for any further physical investigation, as the saying goes, ‘’It is better to see oneself rather than to hear for many times’’ &’’ facts are more eloquent than words’’.

The company expressed surprise in the defection allegations noting that it has constructed two more flyovers in the first tenure of Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, completed Murtala Muhammad way bridge and also awarded the Kofar- Mata flyover which is ongoing.
