There Is No Record Of Polio In Kano- Official
Kano State government on Sunday described as false, information being spread across the state on the alleged outbreak of poliomyelitis in Tarauni local government of the state.
Permanent Secretary, Kano state Ministry of Health, Malam Usman Bala Mohammed made the denial at a news conference in Kano on Sunday noting that it is pertinent to make urgent clarification from the rumour being peddled in various news outlets.
Mal. Bala said that Kano has not recorded any case of wild polio various in the last 58 months.
“The stoppage in the transmission of poliovirus in Kano State was achieved through sustained and collective efforts by the State government,” he added.
He noted that there were 8 other recorded circulating Vaccine Derived Polio cases across the country from January to May 2019.
“I wish to emphatically reiterate that the Tarauni March 15 episode was not a case of Wild Polio Virus and that Kano State does not have a Wild Polio outbreak since July 2014” he insisted.
The Permanent Secretary used the medium to categorically state that the state government within the last four years has supported polio campaign with a commitment and zeal, and partnered with many stakeholders towards ensuring that the fight to end poliovirus in the state was aiming to conquer its menace to the barest minimum.
