Allahu Akbar! End of a glorious era. YA as he was popularly known was a productively austere man.
Many especially in the Bayero University, Kano, BUK community dreaded him and felt he was difficult to work with.
Even those who loved his discipline and high level of responsibility were scared of working with him as one senior professor (now retired) once confessed to me.
He was deeply religious and was versed in traditional sciences and arts. His MA thesis written in mid- sixties remained encyclopedia in historical documentation.
Most of the latter researchers including myself, drank from the oceanic exposition of the work. In fact, I derived both my MA (1990) and my PhD (1995) Theses tittles by reading and re- reading his Thesis. I was very close to him during my undergraduate and postgraduate period at the BUK.

He made his subordinates work hard and dedicated to work. He was genuinely distinctive on matters of official works and inter-personal relationship. On matter of Ebira History he was no 1 in his repository and documentation. He prided himself as an Old Skool. He could easily be mistaken as a traditionalist.
Y.A Ibrahim’s era was the most closest to nature, raw material and raw gamut and historical resources.
He believed that life in the current place of Ebira Tao (he was the coiner of the catche) began from Eika whom he believed was the eldest of all Ebira clan-groups (children). As a student of late Prof Abdullahi Smith, he drank from the historical source and recourse of the very first generation of historians (he was one of them). Adai YA believed that he would have been better as academics rather than administration that he was pushed into. Though he was an administrative icon and a celebrated Registrar, Y.A Ibrahim was an academician in his own right. One day, his Thesis would be published. May Allah Ta’ala forgive his shortcomings & admit him to jannah.
