Kano State government on Thursday restated  commitment to continue occupying  its position as model in terms of Fertilizer Production in Nigeria.

The state deputy governor Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna stressed that the administration of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje is making a giant stride in regards to the provision of inputs to Farmers aimed at enhancing their productivity.

” For the past four years, the administration of Dr. Abdullahi has done so much in terms of provision of inputs to Farmers and one important aspects is Fertilizer and that has to do with revival of Kano State Agricultural Supply  Company (KASCO) by the present administration ” he disclosed.

A statement issued and signed by Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Hassan Musa Fagge said  Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna stated this while addressing journalists on the preparations made so far by the Ganduje’s administration to ensure that Farmers are provided with much needed inputs against this year raining season.

He argued ” it is apparent even the Neighboring States now procure their Fertilizer from Kano and through the Module from Kano, the Federal Government also set up a Task Force Committee on Fertilizer chaired by the Jigawa State Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar which adopted the system used by Kano on Fertilizer supply and consequently led to the production of qualitative Fertilizer at affordable price”

Nasiru Gawuna maintained that the administration had also revive KASCO Stores and Wares Houses across the state where Fertilizers are taken to door-step of Farmers to make it accessible and available.

” On the issue of land clearance, earlier this year, Kano State Government provided Seeds Funding to All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) in all the 44 Local Government Areas  which enabled them to enter in to Partnership and Programmes with other development Partners where they developed a programme to procure tractors under Farm Mechanization ” Gawuna added.

According to him, under this Programme, Kano State Government has spent N132, 000,000 as it’s 25% contribution to Farmers where they procured Tractors and the State is monitoring the Programme to ensure best result.

Gawuna explained that the provision of quality Seeds through Cooperative Societies is the next programme to be embarked upon soon by the administration where Farmers Groups at local government level would be the target beneficiaries.

” At the moments,  Kano has been chosen to flag off rice planting season under the Anco Borrowers Programme and Kano has the largest number of Farmers that have registered so far.

” The Federal Government and State Government are reviving the production of Cotton because when you are talking about reviving Cotton industries,  you have to look at the raw materials, that is why Federal Government is bringing the two together ” he pointed out.

Based on this development, said Gawuna, over 40,000 Farmers from Kano have been aggregated and are now going to participate on Cotton Production Programme to be flagged off in Kano.

He said ” We have already flagged off the planting of Cotton in Gwarzo and it has been successful, at the same time we follow it up through  Extension Workers who are assisted by our development Partners ”
