BUK holds seminar to review postgraduate curriculum in communication

Bayero University, Kano faculty of Communication, in conjunction with some Mass Communication Departments have begun a two-day Seminar to review the curriculum for the post-graduate program in Nigerian Universities.

The host, Prof. Umaru Pate, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Kashere in Gombe State, in his opening remarks, said the review is a platform towards changing the face of journalism across the country.

The chairman of the Review Committee, Dr Noel who represented the NUC Boss, Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed said that Commission would do everything possible to support the change after the NUC unbundled Mass communication program in all Nigerian Universities.

In his contribution, the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria, Professor Abdallah Uba Adamu said it is lamentable that mathematics is considered as a requirement to gain admission to study Post Graduate Programme in Communication.

He stressed that it is ridiculous as it has dissuaded a lot of potential candidates for the various programmes. He further noted that NUC has a role to correct this culture.

The program which is currently taking place in Kano has lecturers, Professors and other communication gurus from different universities in attendance and it is expected to be concluded on Thursday, 29th April.
