Cholera Outbreak : Kano Govt. Confirms Three Death

Kano state government on Wednesday confirmed the death of three persons from a fresh cholera outbreak at Wailari quarters in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.

The state ministry of health made the confirmation through its public relations officer Isma’ila Garba Gwammaja in an interview with Solacebase.

Isma’ila Garba Gwammaja said the incident occurred as a result of the heavy down pour experienced in the state last week with dirt flowing into an open well being used by the residents.

Although residents and parents that lost children said the outbreak has claimed four lives

One of the parents of the deceased, Mallam Muhammadu Auwalu said two of his children, Uzairu Auwal, (11) and Abdullahi Auwal (10) who were hospitalised were discovered with the symptoms of the outbreak.

Due to the frequent stooling and vomiting, they eventually gave up the ghost at Yusuf Maitama Hospital in Kwanar Dawaki.

One Sulaiman Jingir confirmed also said that the cholera also killed two of his children, Aisha Jibril (3) and Jibril Sulaiman (4).

He explained that Aisha died at home shortly after developing the symptom of the disease, while Jibril died at the hospital.

The ministry spokesman said a team of Rapid Response and Emergency has been dispatched to the area to carry out outbreak Investigation and Response to determine the extent and measures to check the spread.

He explained that a Cholera Treatment unit has also been established at Yar’gaya and Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) to forestall the spread of the disease.
