Court adjourns hearing on arrest of woman accused of insulting Gov. Ganduje’s wife

A 49 year old woman,  Amina Abdullahi Sani of Nasarawa quarters, Nasarawa local government area of Kano state has filed application before a Kano high court to restraining the Assistant Inspector General of Police, (AIG) Zone one, Kano and Commissioner of Police in the state from arresting and intimidating her.

In an application for enforcement of her fundamental right as guaranteed by the 1999 constitution as amended, the applicant, sought the relief of Justice Zuwaira Yusuf of court no. 17, Ungogo division, to restore her right against the security persecution.

Solacebase gathered that Amina was arrested and detained by the Police in October 2021 for allegedly insulting and abusing the wife of the Governor, Dr. Hafsat Umar Ganduje.

The applicant, was accused of  committing the atrocities that got her hands burnt when she held a naming ceremony where friends and well wishers were said to have attended in large number.

This paper was reliably informed that, Amina was said to have invited trouble for herself when the musician who performed during the ceremony was accused of uttering unprintable languages against the wife of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

When the matter came for hearing on Thursday , counsel to the applicant, Barr. Bashir Mohammad told the court that her client possesses the fundamental right guaranteed by law to organize event freely without interference.

Barr. Bashir who challenge the interest of the Police and one Bello Dalhatu who lodged the complaint that led to the arrest of Amina, insisted that Dr Hafsat ought to have approached the authority to institute the action.

The applicant attorney expressed worries over the action of the security agent who had earlier remanded her client in custody despite the existence of ex-parte order granted by same court.

In a counter argument, Counsel to first and second respondents (AIG and CP) and officer in charge of legal department of the Kano command , Barr. Sunday Ekwe filed preliminary objection against the applicant’s motion.

The O/C legal  represented by a Counsel in the department, said the court has the jurisdiction to hear the application which joined the applicant and her husband in the case.

Justice Zuwaira however adjourned the matter to 18th November, 2021 for the hearing of the preliminary objection.
