COVID-19: Kano Golf Club Postpones Cpt. Ali Magashi Inaugural Tourney

The Management of Kano Golf Club 1908 has postponed until further notice the inaugural tournament to celebrate the recent election of the Ali Magashi led executive committee of the club.

Solacebase reports that the Golf Club said the postponement of the inauguration is in compliance with Kano State Government’s directive on measures to curb the Coronavirus Pandemic and protect public health.

This was contained in a statement issued by Media Consultant to Kano Golf Club  Abdulkadir Ahmed Ibrahim on Monday.

‘’The tournament earlier scheduled to hold from Friday 3rd to Sunday 4th April 2020, at the historic Kano Golf Course was expected to be attended by about 250 Golfers from over 20 Golf Clubs such as IBB Golf and Country Club Abuja, Air Assault Port Harcourt, Smoking Hills Golf Club Ilara –  Ondo State, Royal Golf Club Dutse, Rayfield Golf Club Jos, Rhino Golf Club Jos, Laminga Golf Club Jos, Ada Golf Club Osogbo, Ikeja Golf Club and Ikoyi Golf Club,’’ said the statement.

‘’Five State Governors, Four Ministers, Two former Military Governors, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, Serving and former Members of National and State Assemblies, Traditional Rulers and Businessmen who all Golfers were also billed to attend the inaugural tournament.’’

The Statement quoted the Club’s Competition Secretary, Auwalu Badawa, as saying that the Committee has also suspended all local competitions, kitties and monthly mugs until further notice.

He added that Golfers who still want to play especially those on the advice of Medical Doctors or Physiotherapists to maintain good health, are to strictly adhere to the directives of Kano State Government and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, on personal hygiene and social distancing and the interim rules introduced by the club.

According to the statement, under the rules, a maximum of four players per flight, their caddies, ball watcher and brown sweeper making it a maximum of 10 people per group will be allowed on the course and they should maintain a social distance of not less than two meters between them.

The statement added that the Captain of Kano Golf Club, Alhaji Ali Magashi has personally provided handwashing stations and hand sanitizers at different locations on the golf course.
