COVID-19: Kano To Support Private Health Institutions With PPEs
Kano State Government has promised to support Private Health Institutions with Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) and other materials immediately the state is in possession of the same to protect them against COVID-19.
The state governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje made the pledge on Tuesday at a meeting with the Guild of Medical Directors and other health stakeholders at the government house.
Governor Ganduje said health practitioners who are at the frontline of the war against coronavirus needed to be protected for them to give their best.
The governor emphasized the importance of private health practitioners in their complementary role to government in the provision of healthcare services.
Ganduje noted the need for more collaboration between the COVID-19 Taskforce Committee and the Private Health Institutions in the State in the handling of COVID-19 pandemic.
‘’ Private Health Institutions can patronise Drug manufacturing and consumables supply agency for their supplies of drugs and medical consumables during the period of the lockdown,’’ said Ganduje
He urged Private Health Institutions to improve referral mechanisms from their facilities to the testing centres to enhance treatment of COVID-19 patients.
‘’Private hospitals must ensure the provision of basic preventive items- handwashing, hand sanitizers, facemasks, hand gloves,’’ Ganduje urged.
The governor commended the Private Health Institutions Management Agency led by Dr Usman Tijjani Aliyu for its role in ensuring that the Private Health Institutions are carried along in the fight against the pandemic by training (in conjunction with NCDC) 100 number of Infection prevention and control (IPC) personnel from the private hospitals.
In a remark, Chairman of the Guild of Medical Director, Dr Abdulkadir Mustafa appreciated the state government drive in the health sector and carrying the private health providers along in the fight against COVID-19.
He appealed for the sustenance of such collaboration so as to improve on healthcare service delivery in the state.
