CSO advocates measures to reduce maternal, child mortality

A Civil Society Organization, Resource Center for Human Rights  and Civic Education ( CHRICED) has advocated sensitization and increased commitment to provision of quality health care as measure to reduce child and maternal mortality in Kano and the nation at large.

In a paper presentation at a one day training for media and CSOs tittle “strengthening, maternal and child health care through accountability reporting, Professor A. B Ahmad of Bayero University Kano, says “Pregnancy is not a disease.’’

He said  It should not lead to deaths, noting that every maternal death should be regarded as an abnormality.

Prof. Ahmed also said despite having one of the highest rates of maternal mortality in the world, many cases of women dying during childbirth in Nigeria are still unreported.

“Each maternal death should be counted, and action taken to review or set up systems to make sure no woman dies while giving birth, especially in the communities.’’

In a remark, CHRICED Board Chairman, Prof.  Momodu Kassim-Momodu appealed to media professionals to accord reportage on maternal and child healthcare much priority so as

Prof. Momodu said training is aimed at strengthening maternal and child healthcare through accountability interventions in Kano state.

At the end of the training , participants agreed to increase sensitization and creation of awareness on issues related to maternal death  to reduce the high rate in the Kano and across the country.
