Fear of ex-Kano anti-corruption boss, Muhuyi Magaji, police prevent annual lecture series
Kano police Command on Thursday sealed the venue slated to celebrate 2021 International anti- corruption day in the metropolis.
Solacebase reports that International Anti-Corruption Day has been observed annually, on 9 December, since the passage of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption on 31 October 2003 to raise public awareness for anti-corruption.
The annual event organised by a Civil Society Organisation, Concerned Citizen of Kano state ran into hitch when police officers appeared at the rented venue and ordered participants to dispersed.
Hundreds of youth had gathered at Leena event centre located along Muhammadu Buhari way opposite Yusuf Maitama Sule University at Kabuga where the immediate past Chairman, Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, Muhuyi Magaji-Rimingado was billed to speak.
The youth invited Barr. Muhuyi Magaji to give a pep talk on the corruption war.
The Convener of the Public Lecture, Comrade Nafiu Danlami Marshal expressed surprise with the turn of event at the venue.
Danlami said the annual lecture series was strictly on invitation; hence he was taken aback when the police came around and directed them to leave the venue immediately.

‘’I was surprise to see the police fully kitted as if they are going to war. They never told me the reasons for their action but rather disperse everybody and seal up the venue., ‘’Danlami said.
When asked if he has a police permit to organise the event, the convener, rhetorically asked, when is it an offence to organise a lecture series that police have to be notified.
‘’Look the police have infringed on my fundamental right of peaceful and lawful assembly, and I am not going to take it lightly with them.’’

‘’This is an event that we have spent a lot of money to put together and this is not even the first time we are having such an event.’’
Solacebase reliably gathered that the presence of the former anti- corruption boss was what the state government is not comfortable with considering that recently , he had a program on radio where he disclosed some anomalies in the Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje led administration which the government is not happy with.
The source said the police were acting under instruction of the state government.
”Have you forgotten how the police were used to prevent the APC faction of the Senator Ibrahim Shekarau from holding their congress at Sani Abacha Youth Centre recently,” the source noted.
Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado crossed the red line, when he instituted investigation into some financial activities involving the state first family.
In a letter with reference number PCACC/CM/OFF/VOL.1/071 dated June 10, 2021, and signed by the chairman of the commission, Muhuyi Rimingado, the commission requested the commissioner of the Ministry of Works to provide information relating to construction of Cancer Center and the supply of diesel by the state government.

Credible sources told this newspaper that bulk diesel supply in government ministries, departments and agencies is the exclusive preserve of the first family.

It was gathered that the contract for the construction of the Cancer Centre, believed to be handled by a proxy of the first family, is undergoing a series of variation, which calls for concern of the commission.
The contract for the Cancer Centre was initially awarded at the cost of N2.4 billion but currently stands at over N5billion due to a series of variations.
Solacebase recalls that a petition was later written against the commission chairman, by the state Accountant General to the House of Assembly for rejecting an accountant posted to the agency.
He was subsequently invited by the Assembly and later suspended for allegedly forwarding a forged hospital document to it, when he could not honour the invitation.

The suspended Chairman subsequently dragged the Assembly, Police and 3 others to court over the issue.
However, when contacted for reaction over the issue, Kano Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa said he was yet to be intimated of such action of sealing an event centre.
Kiyawa said the command would find out the true position of the case and get back to this newspaper.
Also, Solacebase contacted the State Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, for comments over allegation on the state government involvement in the sealing of the event centre but his phone was not going through.
