Groups train journalists, CSOs on COVID-19 response in Kano

Kano State Ministry of Health in collaboration with a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Lafiya project -UK Supporting to Health in Nigeria and Partnership to Engage and Learn (PERL) have organised a two-day sensitization meeting for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Stakeholders and Media Professionals on Covid19 response in State.

In a paper presentation titled ” ensuring Accountability and transparency in all Covid-19 response and preparedness by government and other indicators”, The accountability and advocacy Co-ordinator for the Lafiya/DFID Kano state Hajiya Umma Muhammad Bakana commended the CSOs and Media for their untiring efforts in the fight against the spread of Coronavirus in Kano and the Nation at large.

She called Kano State government to sustain the tempo for the benefit of the State.

The Co-ordinator also expressed happiness over the cordial relationship between the media and Civil Society Organizations in the state which according to her has kept the citizens informed on Covid19 pandemics.

While speaking on the objectives of the meeting, One of the Co-ordinators from CSOs Dr Abdussalam Muhammad Kane  emphasised that it is better  “to understand the historical background of Corona Virus, the modes of transmission and prevention of Covid19 pandemic  strategies and standard infection precautions for media workers while reporting Covid19 update”

Others according to Dr Kane are to communicate the right message on Covid19 to the general public and know how to link services within the community. “To sensitize the media and CSOs on the need for accountability in the overall Covid19 response management, palliatives and communication.’’
