How Spanish Laliga Hausa commentary set northern Nigeria agog

Just like the English Premier League and German Bundesliga, organisers of  Spanish Laliga in partnership with, Arewa radio, an FM station in Kano entertained their teeming supporters in the recently concluded 2019/20 campaign.

The Laliga commentary which began in August 2019 has gradually become a mainstay in major northern Nigerian cities of Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa and some major cities across northern Nigeria.

Head of Sports Department of Cool FM, Wazobia FM and Arewa radio in Kano, Sharif Abdallah (Babs), in an interview with Solacebase on Saturday described the region as a hub of Laliga and believes it can only get better.

“The idea of pulling this is to entertain a large number of Laliga followers across the region in their local language.”

“You know the BBC is broadcasting the English Premier League in Hausa from London and DW also does the same for  German Bundesliga from Bonn in Germany. ”

“The hub of Laliga in Nigeria is in the north and we realised the need to bring it to their doorstep.”

“Not just Real Madrid and Barcelona, even teams like Atletico Madrid, Valencia and Villarreal have massive supporters in Kano and most parts of northern Nigeria.”

“It is a privilege that the organisers have recognised  Nigeria and the northern region for the passion the people have for their league. ”

According to Abdallah “In the course of last season, you will see fans trooping to viewing centres with their radio sets and even commercial vehicles just because the commentary was done in Hausa.”

“We hope to build on what was achieved last season to satisfy our teeming listeners.”

“Is not just on the radio, it’s visual because we have tens and thousands of followers in the diaspora that follow it live on Facebook.”

Meanwhile, the new Spanish Laliga 2020/21 kicks off on the 12th of September.
