JUST IN: Aviation workers to embark on nationwide strike

Aviation unions have threatened to embark on strike if, within seven days, the Federal Airports Authorities of Nigeria (FAAN) refuse to meet its demands that include salary issues.

Solacebase reports that the unions include National Union of Air Transports Employees (NUATE), Air Transport Services Senior Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) and Association of Nigeria Aviation Professional (ANAP).

In a letter dated October,7th addressed to FAAN Managing Director, and obtained by Solacebase on Wednesday, the unions said the increasing delays and staggering of salary payments has become unbearable for its members and can no longer be tolerated.

According to the letter, the salary issues are full payment of all outstanding salaries, full remittances of all outstanding Co-operatives, pensions, tax, deductions and full payment of all outstanding allowances, grants and claims.

Solacebase reports that the letter was jointly signed by NUATE, General Secretary, Comrade Ocheme Aba, ATSSSAN, Deputy General Secretary, Comrade Frances Akinjole and ANAP Secretary-General, Comrade Abdul Rasaq Saidu.

The letter read:’’ Management is hereby notified that if within seven days from the date of the notice all shortfalls in salary payments are not fully rectified and settled, our unions will commence an indefinite industrial action against the Authority.

The unions added in the letter, that with this notice all members nationwide are directed to remain mobilised and ready for whatever actions that may be decided failure of management to meet the demands.
