Kano state government has fixed Sunday 7th of March for debate between some Islamic clerics and the fiery preacher, Sheikh Abdul-Jabbar Kabara.

However, a legal practitioner, Barr. Maaruf Yakasai had filed a suit to be joined in the matter demanding the court to stop the debate as it violates its earlier order stopping Sheikh Abduljabbar Kabara from preaching.

Maaruf Yakasai represented by Barr. Lukman Abdullahi said his client, the applicant is an interested party in the suit, as a concerned citizen of Nigerian, a Muslima and indigene of Kano.

At the court sitting on Friday, the Chief Magistrate, Muhammad Jubril insisted that its earlier order must be maintained and the parties are restrained from taking further step including dialogue, or gathering howsoever, whatsoever pending the determination of the application.

He then adjourned the matter to March, 22nd, for a continuation of the case

Reacting to the ruling, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Musa Abdullahi Lawal said the government has always been responsible in obeying court order and this would not be an exception.

‘’ We have always been obeying court orders even if you recollect the court order by Judiciary workers on the deduction of their salary, despite the fact that we have a reservation on the jurisdiction of the court, we obeyed,’’ the Attorney General told Solacebase.

He affirmed that the debate will not hold

The cleric, Abdul-Jabbar Kabara was accused of blasphemy  in  his preaching and was consequently suspended by the Kano state government from preaching

Meanwhile, the Jamaatul Nasril Islam led by Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar has distanced itself from participating in the debate saying what the cleric deserves is punishment.
