JUST IN: Kano reintroduces ban on motorcycles carrying passengers
Kano State Government has banned motorcyclists from carrying passengers in the state.
Solacebase reports that Kano State first introduced the law banning motorcycles from carrying passengers in January 2013 following a series of attacks by gunmen on motorbikes.
Also, the ban was reintroduced in September 2017 as part of measures against insecurity in the state.

Managing Director, Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA), Alhaji Baffa Babba Dan Agundi announced the ban on Wednesday at a news conference in the state.
Alhaji Baffa Babba Dan Agundi said the ban takes effect from (today) Thursday, 18th of June.

‘’The Agency took the decision due to the observation that some residents are returning back to the business of carrying passengers on motorcycles for commercial purposes popularly known as Achaba,’’ said KAROTA MD.
He noted that the personnel of the agency have been directed to effect arrest of violators of the law from Thursday, June,18th.
The Managing Director, however, called on vehicle owners to continue abiding by the protocols laid down by health professionals to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
