Forum of Local Government Party Chairmen of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State, has accused the party’s  Congress committee mandated to conduct Ward Congress election of bias.

Chairman of the Forum, Mahammina Bako, said at a press conference on Tuesday in Kano that the committee headed by Gov. Ahmed Fintiri of Adamawa was not fair to all members of the party.

Bako noted that the committee favoured one faction of the party during the congress election conducted in 484 wards on March 17 in the state.

“It is a known fact that the state branch of the PDP has been in crisis since the re-entry of Kwankwaso, the immediate past governor of Kano State.

“Unfortunately; the national leadership of the party became one-sided and continued to support Kwankwaso’s faction”.

He alleged that the committee works to ensure that Kwankwaso controls the party in the state, saying: “the state executive of the party under Sen. Mas’ud Doguwa was dissolved.

“The committee, however, refused to involve the existing elected executives of the party at ward and local government levels in the election processes.

“On arrival, the congress committee contacted only the Kwankwasiyya group neglecting the mainstream PDP. With this group, the committee agreed on the modalities for the congresses, while the other group was not involved.

“It was after accepting the list of candidates as presented by the Kwankwaso’s group, that the chairman of the committee invited heads of other groups for what he called a courtesy call.

“All the aspirants for the ward congress totalling 9, 680 who purchased forms from our group, amounting to over N50 million were not considered let alone listened to”.

According to him, the committee contacted only the caretaker committee chairman of the party in the state, who is acting illegally base on the party’s constitution.

Bako alleged further that the congress committee endorsed lists of candidates submitted by the caretaker committee.

“On the basis of the above; we hereby reject the result as announced, and we are calling on the national headquarters of the party to direct for a fresh congress that will ensure the participation of every registered member in election processes,” he added. (NAN)
