Some residents of Kano have expressed dismay over the deplorable state of township roads in the metropolis.
The residents told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Kano that the terrible state of some of the roads had continued to be a source of great concern to road users, especially motorists.
One of them, Malam Musa Abdullahi, said that the dilapidated roads had affected human and vehicular movements within the city, thereby causing serious traffic congestion along the roads.
Abdullahi added that failure of the Kano State Road Maintenance Agency (KARMA) to repair the affected roads had been responsible for the increasing number of accidents being recorded in the city on a daily basis.
“You hardly drive your car within the city without going through bad portion of roads.
“This is especially if you are going to Farm Centre, Court Road and the road from Sallare area to Zaria road as well as from Giginyu through Kawo to Eastern bypass roads, just to mention a few.
“Most of the roads in the city need to be rehabilitated. Indeed, most of the patched potholes have gone bad, thus making it difficult for motorists to move easily,” he said.
Another resident, Malam Lawan Shehu, said that there was an urgent need for the state government to do something about the roads, most of which, he said, were in bad state of roads and had become worrisome to Kano residents.
“There are some areas where a distance, which should not last for more than 10 minutes, now takes between 15 minutes and 20 minutes,” Shehu said.
He said that despite several appeals to KARMA to repair the damaged roads, the agency had yet to do something to save motorists from the ugly situation.
However, all efforts to contact the Managing Director of KARMA, Mr Idris Wada-Sale, failed, as he did not pick the several phone calls put through to him by a NAN correspondent.
Similarly, the managing director did not reply the text message sent to his mobile phone as at the time of filing this report. (NAN)
