The recent pronouncement by Kano state government that, as from January 2020, it will become a crime for men and women to board the same tricycle in the State has generated a lot of reaction from the people of the state.
An investigation conducted by Solacebase revealed that the pronouncement has indeed triggered a serious discussion from various sectors of endeavours. Many are regarding the Kano state government decision as too harsh and lack human face as it will only increase the already existing hardship being faced by commuters in the state.

Solacebase recalled that Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje revealed the decision on Wednesday at the closing ceremony of 77th annual Islamic Vacation Course (IVC) organised by Zone A of Muslim Society of Nigeria (MSSN) held at Bayero University, Kano.
Abdullahi Ganduje, represented by Commander General of Hisbah Board, Harun Ibn-Sina, said the state government is committed to upholding Islamic values.
According to a commuter Sulaiman Uba Dakata, the banning will only create more hardship than any meaningful benefit to the people adding that, if the state government is having issues with the tricycle operators it should device other means of dealing with it and not subjecting the entire people of the state into a quandary.

“Now tell me, does this mean I can no longer board a tricycle with my wife, sister or daughter? This is purely inhumane to assume that, every man and woman boarding tricycle are miscreants. Moreover, is that the problem with the people of the state, we lack good roads, good health service delivery, good educational system and many other things and yet the government is less concern with these but much interested in trivial issues like that of men and women boarding the same tricycle, this is so unfortunate.
We are aware that, the government is having an issue with the tricycle operators; it should, therefore, device other means of dealing with it and not subjecting the entire people of the state into a quandary,” said Uba Dakata.
Similarly, one of the tricycle operators in the state Malam Hamza Sani Tsamiya Babba said, the whole issue related to the ban is an act of vendetta on the tricycle operators adding that they have complied with various new regulations introduced by the state government and yet the government is still after them for not voting for them in the 2019 February elections.
He stresses that, without putting any measure in place to address the inconveniences that may occur due to the banning, the whole issue is nothing but a vendetta that will only brew chaos in the state.
Also, a legal practitioner in Kano, Barrister Aliyu Jamilu stated that, though the state government has the right to formulate any policy that is deemed fit to better the lives of the state’s citizenry.
He, however, added that there ought to be strategies taken before the implementation of the policy to curtail the repercussion of such policy and the attendant hardship
