Kano To Recruit One Medical Doctor Each For 44 LGAs

Kano state governor Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has revealed that the state government will recruit one medical doctor to each of the 44 local governments of the state with a view to improving the delivery of primary health care services in the state.

Governor Ganduje made this known during the Kano 2020 Primary Health Care Summit held in Kano state Tuesday.

According to him, in its efforts to strengthen its primary health care delivery system the state government has begun to make a move to transfer PHC staff salaries from the ministry for local government to the state Primary Health Care Development Agency adding that by the end of March 2020 it will be completed and effected fully.

Similarly, during a presentation of the Introduction to people’s scorecard by Partnership for the Advocacy in child and family at Scale (PAS) at the summit, Malam Mahmud Habib Maje of Women in Media Initiative (WIM) revealed that with funding from development Research and Projects Centre (dRPC) an assessment was conducted on Primary Health Care Under One Roof (PHCUOR) in Kano state and the outcome has shown that Kano state scored best in system management development and scored less in repositioning.

Declaring the summit open, the Minister of Health Dr Osagie Emmanuel Ehanire revealed that the federal government is doing a lot to make primary health care delivery system very effective and functional to be able to operate 24 hours a day.

Meanwhile, Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje was awarded “Champion of Primary Health Care”  by National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) for his continued effort in the development of primary healthcare system in the state, and institutional strengthening replicating global best practice.

A statement issued by Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Abba Anwar said the award was presented to the governor by the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Emmanuel Enahire and the Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr Faisal Shu’aib.
