Enabling law to ensure good management and sustainability of the about-to-be-commissioned Kano Ultra Modern Skills Acquisition Centre located at Gurjiya in Dawakin Kudu local government area is underway, the governor of Kano state, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje reveals that,
“President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to come to Kano state and commission the giant edifice. It is on this note, that I want disclose to you that, a law will be established for the Centre, so as to have an effective and efficient management of the world class facility.”
A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Kano state Governor Abba Anwar said Ganduje made the disclosure during an inspection visit to the Centre, Friday, in company of his commissioners, party elders and some special advisors, ensuring that “The Centre is deliberately designed to cater for our teeming unemployed youth. We want our youth to be assets not liabilities. Hence the need to bring forth strategies for their well being.”
“There will be a law that will look into the management of the Centre. We want have a very disciplined organization. With good remuneration for staff and their welfare. It is not going to be business as usual,” he explains.
Adding that, his government wants to see that those trained in the Centre go to places, even outside Kano and display their skills to earn good living. Emphasizing that, “…this is a signature project. The best in the country. As far as skills acquisition facilities are concerned.”
The centre’s foundation was laid by the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osibanjo some months back, with the view to having training machines for over 23 different kinds of trades. Ranging from carpentry, plumbing, shoe making, catering services, tailoring, car repairing, among other trades.
Kano state spent over N4b for erecting the structure and procurement of the machines. All the machines are exported from the United Kingdom and have since been on ground at the Centre.
“As you can see by yourselves, over 50 percent of the machines are installed. A dream has come true. Mine is just to request our youth to come forth and get trained. So as to live a good life. And help others and the society at large,” Ganduje appeals.
Governor Ganduje further disclosed that, technicians for the machines are already on ground. And hinted that “…those who will be instructors in this facility will be trained in the United Kingdom. We have finished that arrangement already. We mean what we are saying. We mean business.”
While commenting on the machines already in place, Ganduje encouraged that, Kano government procured latest machines for the 23 different trades penciled down for the ultra-modern skills centre. 
As the Centre is almost ready for the installation of all machines, governor Ganduje said “Very soon the centre will take-off, which President Buhari will bless the gigantic project with commissioning. This administration places greater emphasis on human development.”
The centre will train Kano youth free of charge, but will charge other people coming from other states, for training. “Since from inception, we informed the Consultant the kind of edifice we wanted. That is why you can see that the design of the building suits for suitable environment for the installation of all types of machines we will be using,” concludes Ganduje.
