Stakeholders have been called upon to offer promising solutions towards stemming the tides of challenges in health security issues at local government and state levels.
Kano state Coordinator, LISDEL-GHAI project, Mallam Muhammad Shuaib made the assertion on Thursday during a roundtable Forum On Health Security Policy and Financing in Kano State.
He said the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic took the world by surprise, which Nigeria and it’s three-tier of government establishment were not an exception.
Shu’aib added that ” this is the paramount objective for organising such roundtable forum to secure the commitment of stakeholders to harness and align statutory functions towards advancing the course of health security in the state.

‘’Adding that the participants who were mostly local government chairmen are braced up during the roundtable interaction of epidemics response arrangements on the local government level and also briefed on epidemic’s preparedness financing, funding opportunities and challenges.’’
Among the participants, Chairman Garko local government, Maigida Adamu Dal said the roundtable discussion is apt and timely.
He noted that the COVID-19 pandemic came with many lessons, with regards to an appropriate response.
The Council Chairman noted that the interactive session has immensely awakened them towards raising the sense of urgency for strengthening needed capacity for health security issues at local governments level.
Also, while commenting on the benefits derived from the roundtable event, Chairman Dambatta local government, Idris Haruna Zago said that interaction was highly fruitful with regards to health security policy and financing.
He said that COVID-19 pandemics, apart from the negative lessons learnt from the scourge, it has made government at every level to stay awake as part of contingency plans in case of any unforeseen outbreaks in the future.
The interactive session was attended by some Kano state local government chairmen, representatives and stakeholders in health sectors.
