Medical Consultants Urged To Train Registrars On Use Of PPE-CMD

The Chief Medical Director of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Professor Abdurrahman Abba Sheshe has urged consultants in the hospital to train the junior and intermediate doctors on the appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment with a view to boosting their morale.

Professor Abdurrahman Abba Sheshe gave the directive in continuation of the Hospital Management Committee meeting held on Saturday.

He explained that the Hospital has put in place various protective measures and equipment to ensure that workers are fully protected from been infected in the process of discharging their duties.

He, however, said some members of staff of the hospital have little understanding of these PPEs as they have been used indiscriminately and at the wrong places.

He said that about a week ago the three categories of FaceMasks made available in the hospital were distributed whereby N95 was given to Frontline health care providers at General Out-Patients Department, National Health Insurance Clinic, Retainership, Accident and Emergency as well as in the Labour, adding that Surgical Facemask were issued to all health workers while the AKTH woven (cloth)facemasks were distributed to Patients and their relations in the Wards.

The CMD noted that in an effort to decongest Accident and Emergency department, Consultation and admission of Patients is now moved to Musa Muhd Borodo Ward and Surgical Ward A, while the old emergency is left for triaging of Patients.

”Canopies were provided at GOPD, Labour Ward and Accident and Emergency department to serve as waiting for Patients and their relations as well as for screening of the Patients,” the CMD added.

In a remark, the Deputy Director Planning Research and Statistics Mr Francis Ahaji called on health care providers and all members of staff of the hospital to have faith in God and discharged their duties without any fear so long as they have observed all the precautionary measures and leave the rest to God Almighty as too much fear kills people more than the disease or illness.

Also, Professor Idris Suleman, HOD Obstetrics and Gynaecology appealed to the media to change their pattern of reporting on Covid 19 with a view to reducing the fear, panic and stigmatisation of people infected by Covid.

He also advised the Management to draw the attention of Kano State Government on the challenges faced by the hospital as all hands must be on deck to succeed in the fight against this pandemic disease.

Solacebase reports that composition of the Training Committee for the intermediate Doctors includes Representative from Chemical pathology, HOD Nursing Services, HOD, Obst. and Gynae, HOD, Internal Medicine, and HOD Community Medicine among others.

The Committee is also given 60 hours to conduct the training for the doctors.
