Over 180 CSOs in Kano demand reversal of petrol price, electricity tariff

Over 180 civil society organizations in Kano have condemned the increase in pump price of petrol from N148.50 to N151.56 per litre.

Kano Civil  society Forum Chairman, Comrade Ibrahim A Waiya at a news conference on Monday in Kano also decried Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) reduction of interest rate on savings which affects mostly the poor and the vulnerable.

He said it is so disheartening that despite all this at the same time the federal government increased electricity tariff by 100 per cent without change in the income of the consumers.

The CSOs expressed dismay on the issues which it called anti people policy coming at a time when most Nigerians are struggling to survive after months of Covid-19 lockdown.

Ibrahim Waiya said the Forum demand the immediate reversal of the new price regimes for both electricity and petrol.

According to him, ‘’We wishe to join hands with other Nigerians and to extend our hands of friendship to all partners such as organized labour and many other stakeholders groups in our quest to ensure the attainment of the aforementioned demands.
