Policemen Allegedly Shot Dead A Driver In Kano

A middle aged driver on Friday was allegedly shot dead by mobile policemen at Zangon Dawanu, in Dawakin Tofa local government area of Kano state.

Eyewitnesses told Solacebase that the incident occurred around 12.30 PM when Muslims were preparing for Friday congregational prayers (Juma’a).

The eyewitnesses said the driver of the black Honda brand car was coming from Dawakin Tofa local government with the policemen in a hot chase of his car , only for the police vehicle to overtake the car at a bump ,before entering the town and shot the driver at a close range and speed off.

The shot driver according to the eyewitnesses was in a pool of blood after calling for help from the residents.

Solacebase reported two weeks ago, Policemen allegedly shot five persons at Ado Bayero Shopping Mall in Kano during Eid el Fitr celebration.

Although the Police Spokesman Magaji Musa Majia initially denied the story only to retract the statement the next day.

“The Command has confirmed that some people were allegedly shot at the mall and a committee has been constituted under the leadership of ACP Naziru Bello Kankaraofi in charge of IGP X Squad to investigate the incident within four days,” said Magaji Majia.

Confirming the situation , Ward Head of Zangon Dawanu Malam Bala Adamu said he was on his farm when his attention was called to the incident as he called Divisional Police Officer  (DPO) of Dawaki Tofa who sent down a police vehicle that rushed the victim to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital where he was later confirmed dead.

“ My younger brother sent for me while I was on my farm that a driver has been shot by some mobile policemen who speed off immediately after  shooting the victim. I then rushed down as my farm was not far away on my motorcycle. Although the victim was still breathing when we got there saying ‘Inalilah wainahilihirajihuna’ ( We are from Allah and to him we would return’,” said the Ward Head.

Malam Bala Adamu said the victim’s family were later called on his phone and they came from Jibiya , in Katsina state , as they confirmed that the car is the personal vehicle of the victim.

The Spokesman of Kano Police Command , SP Magaji Musa Majia said the command will investigate the incident.
