”Some Influential People Frustrate Fight Against Corruption”, Says Kano Anti-Graft Commission

Kano State Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission says Nigeria could only succeed in its fight against corruption when people consider corruption as a common enemy that hinders progress in the country and allow laws to operate.

The Commission Chairman, Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado said this on Wednesday at a news conference in Kano.

He said the commission’s major challenge with carrying out its duties was the use of delay tactics by influential people through abuse of court processes.

According to him, “I have a single case that led us to two different courts; federal and state high courts, all in a bid to stop us from continuing with our investigation.’’

“Although we have judgment by the appeal court that prevent such actions, however, whenever we are investigating cases that involve influential people, they often approach state and federal high court to stop our investigation,” he decried.

The anti-corruption boss noted that the commission recovered over N256.14m  for individuals and government agencies in 2019.

Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado said part of the achievement in 2019 include the recovery of landed properties including 156 plots, 14 houses and 25 farmlands.

‘’We received a total of 3,192 complaints in 2019, out of which 1,858 cases were resolved while others were either pending or declined,’’ he added.
