A communique issued at the end of one day workshop organized by Al-Ummah Development Foundation held in Kaduna on substance abuse and violence among the youths through moral and vocational training has called for Mass mobilization and enlightenment campaigns to be embarked upon as a measure to prevent further exposure of youths to violence and drugs.
The communique signed by the Head, Strategy and Communication Ibrahim Waiya, stated that, the training targeted 350 youths out of which two hundred were rehabilitated from a pool of 2000 youths that were previously involved in drug misuse and violence, but later became reformed through the efforts of a partner organization- ATTAISIR Development Foundation.
It added that, while some indicators proved that, violence and senseless killings have reduced to a minimum level, the question of redundancy and drug abuse is yet to be addressed.
According to it, the program of Al – Umma Development Foundation are designed to fill in this gap with incentive-driven training in agriculture and various skills and trades that will provide the means for job creation and an alternative source of wealth generation to boost Northern Nigerian economy.
The communique also revealed that the noticeable absence of mentoring and moral guidance for the young generation also aids in destroying the lives of the upcoming generation.
It added that there is a need to replicate the sensitization program in all the Northern states, as well as Public sector engagement, should be scaled up to support the government initiatives in addressing the problems faced by our youths in the society.
