Thisday’s Ibrahim Garba Emerges Correspondents’ Chapel Chairman‎ Of Kano NUJ

Kano State Correspondent of Thisday Newspapers, Ibrahim Garba, on Saturday, emerged Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Correspondents’ Chapel, Kano Chapter.‎

‎Mr Garba and all other in-coming executives of the council, were elected unopposed on Saturday ‎to steer the Chapel’s affairs for the next three years.

Other elected members of the new executive include: Tukur Arab of Voice of Nigeria, VON, who emerged Vice-Chairman.‎

Others are: Mustafa Hodi of Peoples’ Daily, Secretary; Ahmad Soro-Dinki of Daily Times, Treasurer; Abbas Bamalli of News Agency of Nigeria as Financial Secretary; and Jerry Maduabuchi as Assistant Secretary of the council.

Mr Garba, in his acceptance speech, described his victory as a call to service, saying he was ready to justify the confidence members reposed on him by upholding high professional standards.

“We will open our doors for good advice, ideas and contributions from members. We will also welcome proposals that are designed to add value to the dignity and integrity of the chapel,’’ he said.‎

Mr Garba also promised to inject new ideas fashioned to improve welfare and working conditions of members.‎

‎“We will come up with an innovation that encourages professionalism in our bid to sanitise the chapel and reclaim its lost glory.’’

He appealed to members to consider the interest of the chapel as paramount; and to treat its business with all the seriousness it deserved.
