Tsafe Emir Orders District HeadsToProvide Perpetrators Of Zamfara Unrest

The Emir of Tsafe in Zamfara, Alhaji Muhammad Bawa, has directed district heads in the emirate to identify and fish out those who participated in Monday’s protest in Tsafe from their various domains.

The emir disclosed this on Tuesday when the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Usman Belel visited the palace to reassure the people of full protection of their lives and properties.

“I have never experienced or encountered such a protest by the youth of this area which seemed the outcome of a long time planning because they came out at once and as if under a guide, they executed this destruction, ” he narrated.

Bawa who was particularly disturbed by the way the protesters blocked the highway in Tsafe town and that of the neighbouring village of Kucheri.

He said he had since instructed the district heads of the two communities in particular and all the other district heads to expose the perpetrators so that they can be brought to book which would serve as a deterrent to others in the future.

He thanked the police commissioner and other security agencies for the prompt action with which they dispelled the mayhem.

Also commenting on the matter, Chairman of the council, Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar, said the protesters had destroyed property worth millions of naira including office blocks and vehicles.

He said a committee would be set up by the council to ascertain the level of damage and also bring all those involved to book.

The Commissioner of Police,  Usman Belel, told the emir that he was at the palace to reassure the people that normalcy had been restored and that investigation was still being carried out on the causes of the crisis.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that irate youths mobilised themselves in both Tsafe and Kucheri, within Tsafe Local Government Area and went on rampage where they burnt several offices at the local government secretariat as well as over 15 vehicles and motorcycles.

NAN also reports that although Tsafe town still looked tense, a combined team of security personnel were seen on patrol to ensure that law and order were maintained.
