World Radio Day: Media Professionals Stage Road Walk Against Vote Buying In Kano

Disturbed by the brazen act of vote buying with an average of one thousand naira being allegedly doled out by politicians to manipulate voters’ choice at the polls, Kano-based mainstream media; Cool Fm, Wazobia Fm and Arewa Radio on Wednesday staged a peaceful road work against the vote buying menace.

The campaign tagged ‘’don’t sell your vote, your vote is your power” which began live on air and thereafter extended to grassroots was targeted at over five million voters in Kano on the need to look beyond the immediate pleasure being derived from the token of an average of N1, 000 inducement when compare to the possible untold hardship they may experience in the next four years if they fail to make the right choice.

Coinciding the campaign with this year’s World Radio Day being celebrated every 13th February, the world class radio stations began the road walk in its domicile Tarauni Local Government Area and afterward toured Sabongari, Zaria Road, Naibawa and Hadeja Road among other strategic locations within the metropolitan.

Addressing newsmen shortly after the six hours road walk, the Head of Stations of the trio media, Prince Daniel Aboki said about sixty thousand flyers were distributed to potential voters within the city ahead of the forthcoming general elections and in commemoration of the 2019 world Radio day.

Aboki said to ensure that the message is comprehended by all the targeted voters regardless of their level of education, the flyers were printed in English, Pidgin and Hausa languages representing the symbol for communication of Cool Fm in English, Wazobia Fm in Pidgin and Arewa Radio in Hausa Language.

Represented by his Co- host on Wazobia FM’s Make Una Wake Up Show; Moses Nongoatse aka Ajebo, the Head of Stations emphatically stressed the need for all electorate to shun vote buying and selling as well as any form of electoral violence before, during and after the 2019 general elections.

“Every February 13th is world radio day, but because we are close to the 2019 general elections we decided to use this to address the issue of vote buying by strengthening the electioneering process, we are on the street of Kano, we have distributed 60,000 flyers and 4000 stickers to tell everybody that, look, one thousand naira is not worth your vote because by the time you divide it by four years you will know that you have sold yourself into slavery”. He explained.

He further urged all Kano residents to vote in the leaders of their choice for a brighter and more democratic nation.
