Be a solution not the problem- ICICE urges Imams

The Director-General of International Centre for Islamic Culture and Education, ICICE, Dr. Kabir Kabo Usman, has advised Imams of Mosques in the Federal Capital Territory, to correct the government when it is wrong and commend it when it is right.

He gave the advice recently in a goodwill message he delivered at a “Seminar on Unity of Imams as a forte to the Ummah and secure nation” organized by the Committee of FCT Imams Initiatives (C.F.I.I) held at Fouad Lababidi Mosque, Abuja.

This was contained in a statement issued by Special Assistant (Media and Publicity) to Dr. Kabir Kabo Usman, Director General of International Centre for Islamic Culture and Education, ICICE, Abdulkadir Ahmed Ibrahim.

According to the statement, Dr. Kabir Kabo said as Leaders and Heads of the Muslim Ummah (Community), an ideal Imam should be: Knowledgeable, Taqwa – Fearful of Allah, Courageous, Sincere (Ikhlaas), Humane, Contented, Organized and focused, Determined, Hard-working and diligent, Punctual, of Good conduct and habit, Tolerant and humble, Commend and appreciate followers efforts, Avoid frequent criticism, Neat, of  Integrity – Disciplined and Generous.

In the statement, he commended the Committee of FCT Imams Initiatives for the successes achieved in its objectives which he attributed to “qualitative leadership that is based on integrity, fairness, justice, honesty, and etiquettes”.

‘’Dr. Kabir Kabo Usman who spoke at length on Islamic Practices and Activities – Shari’a, Mosque (Masjid), Islamic Knowledge and Education, the Role of Imams in Da’awa and the concept of Islamic Leadership, recommended Ten Commandments for the FCT Imams.’’

The statement said the recommendation are the establishment of an Imam forum for dialogue and dissemination of best practices in all local governments and Knowledge, Moral authority and etiquettes are key.

It said Capacity Development is a must, Leadership by example, Management skill is essential, Administer with justice, fear of Allah at all times, spiritual upliftment of the followers for Allah fearing, focus commonality rather than differences, custodian of Ibadat (Man to worship and Mu’amalat (Man to man activities) and leadership – it is not about title, position, it is about influencing the others.

It is about causality and effect vision, planner, Accountability, integrity, honesty, Transparency, Delegation, Deliveries, courage, knowledge wisdom, strategy, trustworthiness, care, and service, be a solution not the problem to society, advise and participate in the affairs of Muslims in government at all levels to advocate for justice and fairness.
