National Association of Nigeria travel Agency (NANTA)  has expressed frustration as government policies such as travel restrictions and quarantines, continue to impact negatively on travel demands at Malam Aminu Kano international airport (MAKIA).

The vice president of the association Kano branch, Abdurrazak Ibrahim lamented this at a press conference in Kano on Thursday.

He said the protection of citizens interest by governments should be a top priority, in terms of boosting the economy by reopening MAKIA which is the only international flight destination in the northern region, apart from the Abuja airport.

He said businessmen, travellers and other stakeholders from the Northerner region have frowned at the exclusion of MAKIA  in the listing of airports marked for reopening for international operations following the coronavirus lockdown.

Solacebase recalled that in September 2020 the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has confirmed the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, and Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, as the two airports allowed to resume international flight operations as other airports would be gradually reopened, stressing, however, that the two would have to adhere to existing COVID-19 protocols.

Also, the president of Kano Chamber of Commerce, Industry Mines and Agriculture (KACCIMA) Alhaji Abubakar Dalhatu said they would be seeking the intervention of the Kano State Governor to plead with the federal government to include Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA),  among the airports that are operating international flights in Nigeria.
