NGO Solicits Accessible Justice System For Women

Rescue the Women Foundation (REWOFO) has solicited that, the courts and the justice system must be accessible and responsive to criminal and civil matters relating to violence against women, for the fight on violence against women to achieve a successful reduction.

The Chief Executive Officer and founder of the NGO, Malam Salim Wada Usman made the call during the 3 years anniversary dinner, awards presentation, lecture and magazine launching held in Kano.

According to him women must be informed of their legal rights and supported to navigate the legal system adding that, there is a need for more women police officers, prosecutors and judges because it is believed that women serving on the frontlines of justice strengthen justice for women.

“A victim of violence must have confidence that when she files a police report, she will receive justice and the perpetrator will be punished,” he said.

Similarly, popular Kannywood actress and a philanthropist Hajiya Mansura Isah in her speech revealed that the move in the reduction in violence against women and children needs a holistic approach that includes every individual’s contribution towards the reduction in the dreaded act.

She added that as a philanthropist and activist she will continue to give support to ensure a drastic reduction has been achieved.

The actress donated N700, 000 to REWOFO and many other personalities present during the event made donations to support the foundation’s activities.

Similarly, Sani Muhammad Maikatanga a photojournalist with Daily Trust newspapers was among the awardees honoured by the foundation.

Mr Maikatanga was honoured for his efforts in human development activities and his support to developmental drive in Kano state and the nation in general.
