Reactions have continued to trail the lifting of suspension on twitter from Nigerians after its ban on June 5, 2021.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the Federal Government had on Wednesday lifted the suspension of Twitter effective midnight.

Twitter wrote on its public policy account that it was delighted with the restoration of its services in Nigeria.

“We are pleased that Twitter has been restored for everyone in Nigeria.

“Our mission in Nigeria and around the world is to serve the public conversation.

“We are deeply committed to Nigeria, where Twitter is used by people for commerce, cultural engagement, and civic participation,” the company said.

Haruna Likita, a civil servant, expressed delight in steps taken by the government to control the use of social media in the country.

Likita, however, said that he never used the VPN that other Nigerians used to access Twitter.

“I personally appreciate the steps taken by Mr President to control the use of social media, especially Twitter.

“We are looking forward to seeing what will be done on Tiktok and other social media platforms.

“I never used VPN and never will I if my government didn’t lift the ban. I will always stand with my country.

“These `oyinbo’ (Foreigners) need to know that Nigeria is a sovereign state,” he said.

Mrs Linda Ukeje, a business woman, thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for lifting the ban on Twitter.

“It is a welcome development; we will continue our constructive criticism against the government to make our country better.

“Thank God for the healing, let’s all get back; after all we have a job to do. This country, Nigeria must be better,” she said.

On the other hand, Mr Thomas Ibrahim, a driver, attributed the twitter ban lifting to upcoming 2023 elections in the country.

“Electioneering period is coming and they need a platform to campaign to the masses. If not they will not lift the ban.

“The unfortunate ban was unnecessary in the first place; we know it is a race against time knowing full well that election campaign is around the corner as Twitter will play a major role.

“The struggle continues,” he said. (NAN)
