Our Position On Street Begging Ban – Kano CSOs

Kano Civil Society Forum (KCSF) has urged the State Government to remain steadfast on its commitment to the ban of street begging, and should not succumb to any pressure or sentiment to reverse its decision.

The call was contained in a statement issued and jointly signed by KCSF’s President Malam Ibrahim Wayya and its Public Relations Office M.K Adam Rano respectively.

According to the statement forwarded to Solacebase on Tuesday, the decision of the Kano State government to enforce the banning of street begging, would not have come at a better time than now.

‘’The forum is aware of the social nuisance the culture of street begging causes in the state, stressing that  Kano State Government has done is in the right direction and is highly commended by the KCSF, without any sentiment or bigotry against any group of people, or class of individuals but is in line with the spirit of preserving, protecting and promoting humanity,’’ said the statement.

The statement said further that Kano State Government should as a matter of urgency, establish a stakeholders High Powered Committee that would develop a roadmap for gradual but effective enforcement of the law banning street begging.

Also, the State Government should organize a stakeholders’ interactive Town Hall meeting with representatives from all walks of life, devoid of any sentiments, particularly the ALARAMMAS, to discuss and generate inputs from the people on how best to engage everybody in the process of enforcing the law banning street begging.
