Polio Immunization : lack of whistles, sweets inducement dampen children’s enthusiasm in Gezawa
Gezawa local government area of Kano state has said the non-distribution of sweets and whistles to children during this month’s impromptu polio immunization exercise has constituted relative inconveniences in the normal friendly approach to administering the vaccine to soften resistance from the intended recipient.
The Head of Health Department of the local government Bashir Abdullahi Minjibir Abdullahi Minjibir disclosed this on Monday during a review meeting conducted at the Gezawa secretariat.
He said the motives which led to the dearth of the inducements meant for the targeted children were not availed to him.
“But, despite that, the prevailing situation hasn’t dampened our spirits, we contacted the local government authority and promised to intervene before the end of the exercise Minjibir said.

On the issue of success recorded during the exercise, the Gezawa health, Head of Department added that from day-1 to day-3 more than sixty thousand children were successfully immunized.
He added that the remaining staff who conducted the exercise deserve a pat on the back and multiple thumbs up for their perseverance and commitment to duty.
Bashir Abdullahi Minjibir then appealed to staff whose allowances delayed to be patient, noting that their complaints would be addressed by WHO within the shortest time.
